Tour France and Italy in a classic Mercedes-Benz SL

Embark on a self-drive tour of France or Italy this summer in a classic Mercedes-Benz SL car. Mercedes has joined forces with German tour operator Nostalgic to offer holidaygoers the unique experience of driving a classic car along some of Europe’s most beautiful roads.

The Provence Tour

Explore winding coastal roads and romantic villages in the South of France, including Arles, Cannes, Avignon and Saint-Rémy. Visit sightseeing spots like the Verdon Gorge, the Lac de Sainte Croix and the medieval abbey in Luberon.

The tour also takes in Provence’s lavender fields, perfume capital Grasse and the Roman ruins and imposing amphitheatre in Arles. And of course you will drive on stunning roads including cliffside route Corniche d’Or and the palm tree-lined Croisette Promenade in Cannes.

The Tuscany Tour

Cruise along cypress-lined avenues past vineyards and olive groves in Tuscany. This tour is based out of Siena, renowned for its imposing black and white marble cathedral. The driving tour takes you through the hills of Chianti, famous for its castles and palaces, woodlands and wine.

Then travel to Pienza, designed as the ‘perfect city’ by Pope Pius X, through Tuscany’s characteristic fields and forests. You will also visit villas, monasteries and vineyards dotted along the open roads chosen for their panoramic views.

About Classic Car Travel tours

Each programme lasts four days and is designed for small groups of up to 18 people.

The self-drive tours use a fleet of 10 classic Mercedes-Benz SL cars. The models are variants of the 1960s 280 SL (W113) ‘Pagoda’ and the more modern 1970s 300 SL (R107). The vehicles will be swapped between drivers over the course of the tour so guests can enjoy driving different models and engine sizes.

The driving routes are carefully selected to showcase stunning scenery and sightseeing opportunities, but also to take you off the beaten track. They include accommodation and restaurants chosen to provide an authentic experience of the region.

Each tour costs €1975 per person assuming a shared double room.

Guests will also receive an introduction to the car, an English-speaking tour guide, a road book containing detailed information about the route and a support team to service the vehicles in the event of any problems.

The price also includes transfers to and from the airport, car insurance, fuel, accommodation with breakfast, admission to venues, guided visits and a welcome gift.
