Eligibility for the Motability Scheme

If you receive mobility allowances from the government, you may be eligible to exchange them for a three-year lease on a new car from Jardine Motors Group Motability dealers. With no upper age limit and parents or guardians able to order a car on behalf of their children (aged three and above) the Motability Scheme really is open to almost everybody.

If you receive one of the following, you should be eligible to join the Motability Scheme:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment
  • War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment

There must be at least 12 months remaining on the allowance and only the higher or enhanced rate of mobility allowance is used. You cannot use the Attendance Allowance to lease a car on the Motability Scheme.

Two named drivers (including yourself) can be nominated on the lease and a third driver can be added at an extra cost. This means your friends, family and carers can drive the disability car as well.

Nominated drivers should live within five miles of your house and only one driver is allowed to be under the age of 21. Any proposed drivers with convictions or disqualifications within the last five years will not be allowed.

To find out more and check if you are eligible, get in touch with your nearest Jardine dealership or directly with the Motability charity.
