It’s been 25 years since the birth of the Porsche Boxster, and so the brand is celebrating by releasing a special anniversary model: the Boxster 25 Years. Only 1,250 examples of the limited edition model will be produced worldwide, but the lucky few who get their hands on one will secure a piece of Porsche history. The production version of the iconic Boxster originally launched in 1996 and is now in its fourth generation, with more than 357,000 models produced.
The Boxster 25 Years pays homage to the original concept car design which debuted at the 1993 Detroit Motor Show and also adopts features from the slightly tweaked 1996 1st generation Boxster. Perhaps one of the most eye-catching features of the special edition Porsche is the pops of Neodyme – a copper-like shimmering brown that appears on the front apron, side air intakes, lettering and 20” two-tone alloy wheels.
This provides a classy contrast to the three options of exterior colour: GT Silver Metallic, Deep Black Metallic, or Carrara White Metallic. Porsche script can be found on the fuel cap in the same aluminium look as the high-gloss tailpipes, whilst the windscreen surround is finished in contrasting black.
Inside, you’ll find Bordeaux leather complemented by brushed aluminium elements surrounding the dashboard and centre console. The convertible top sees red fabric to match the upholstery and is embossed with ‘Boxster 25’ lettering, in keeping with the style of the original. If you’d prefer black for the interior or roof, these are also available as options. To emphasise the special nature of the Boxster 25 Years, you’ll find a ‘Boxster 25’ plaque above the glove compartment with your own limited edition number of the 1,250 models built.
The Boxster 25 Years features the same tech as the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, including the Porsche Communication Management infotainment system displayed on a 7” touchscreen. There’s also the Track Precision App if you fancy testing the car’s power, which shows and records performance-related data. You can upgrade the sound system to Bose Surround or spend a bit extra for the tier-topping Burmester sound system.
The headlights feature the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus as standard, and there’s a range of driver assistance systems available as additional options such as Park Assist with reversing camera, Lane Change Assist or adaptive cruise control.
The Boxster 25 Years uses the same 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine found in the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, putting out a hearty 395bhp. It’s available with manual and PDK automatic gearboxes, reaches a top speed of 182mph and can do the 0 – 62mph sprint in as little as 4 seconds.
This impressive power is matched with high agility and responsiveness, as well as dynamic handling and comfort thanks to the sports suspension (lowering the ride height by 10mm) and Porsche Torque Vectoring. The Sport Chrono package is included as standard and enhances performance with four driving modes – Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual – Launch Control, Motorsports-Inspired Gear Shifting, Sport Response and Dynamic Transmission Mounts. All of this makes for a powerful, dynamic and confidence-inspiring drive.
The iconic status of the original 718 Boxster is what makes this limited edition anniversary model even more special. The launch of the Boxster marked a change in the times for Porsche’s model strategy and paved a way forward during the financial struggle of the mid-1990s. It captured the hearts of customers and, since then, has become a renowned fixture in Porsche’s model line-up. Its only right that Porsche celebrates a quarter of a century of its game-changing roadster family, and Porsche fanatics along with car collectors around the world will be delighted with the Boxster 25 Years.
