DESIGN

The 718 Boxster differentiates itself from its predecessor with a variety of subtle styling cues. Extra road presence has been generated by a new front bumper, as well as larger cooling ducts either side of the front apron and in front of the rear wheel arches. At the rear, a distinctive accent trim makes the new model look wider and more imposing than before, and is accompanied by an active spoiler. The fabric roof, meanwhile, is electronically retractable and can be operated at speeds of up to 31mph. A thoughtfully-designed cockpit constructed from premium-quality materials helps drivers to make the most of every journey. Ergonomics are excellent and intuitive – such simple measures as an ascending centre console, which puts the gear lever a short distance away from the steering wheel, improving both comfort and the driving experience.

PERFORMANCE

The 718 Boxster is powered by a 2.0 litre four-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine with 300hp and maximum torque of 380Nm. The engine has a large spread of torque, making it hugely responsive even at low speeds. The “standard” Boxster makes the 0-62mph dash in 4.9 seconds. Buyers in pursuit of an even lower and sportier ride can opt for the Porsche Active Suspension Management, which lowers ride height improving both driving dynamics and the external aesthetics of the car.

TECHNOLOGY

Buyers have the choice between a six-speed manual transmission or an optional dual-clutch PDK automatic gearbox. Inside, a wealth of communications and entertainment functions are available through the newly released 4th generation of Porsche Communication Management system, which is controlled through a more responsive 7” haptic feedback enabled touchscreen display. Using the PCM – which can be fully integrated with your smartphone – you can access satellite navigation and connect to the outside world through its telephone and wireless internet functions.

SAFETY

Considering the vigorous engine and low weight of the 718 Boxster, it is necessary to put sophisticated systems in place to ensure that the vehicle is kept under control at all times. A relatively long 2475mm wheelbase, as well as the precision of the new direct steering system and an array of traction control functions, guarantees a stable platform. Quick-deploying anti-roll bars and driver and passenger airbags keep you as safe as possible in the event of a collision.
