Porsche will be in attendance at next month’s (November 2015) LA Motor Show, where its new Cayman GT4 Clubsport model will be unveiled. The track-only car is a product of the German firm’s Motorsport division, and will be available for race teams to buy towards the end of 2015.
The race-focused machine has been stripped out on the inside to save weight, and will tip the scales at 40kg lighter than the road version. A driver’s bucket seat, race harness and roll cage all feature. The Clubsport will also share mechanical components with the 911 GT3 racer, notably the vehicle’s lightweight front suspension system.
Beneath the bonnet is the same 380bhp 3.8-litre engine as the non-Clubsport GT4, which drives the rear wheels and is supported by a mechanical locking differential. Porsche has added a PDK dual-clutch gearbox in place of the road car’s manual transmission, and fitted 380mm steel brakes to cope with the demands of the track.
Although the Cayman GT4 Clubsport is limited to racing teams, there is potential for a road-going version to arrive in the future. The Clubsport name has applied to rapid Porsche road cars for years, and the firm shows no sign of dropping it from the line-up.
