FABIA ESTATE MONTE CARLO
Stand-out style and luxury for Fabia’s sporting flagship
The Fabia Estate offers all the value, efficiency and quality of its hatchback sibling, but with even more load space as standard. For 2018 ŠKODA has announced a design refresh, which should further add to its appeal. It’s a well-liked and practical small estate; What Car? named the ŠKODA FABIA Estate as the Best Estate Car for less than £20,000 as part of the 2018 What Car? Car of the Year awards.
For 2018 ŠKODA has announced the Fabia range will be petrol only. All options are three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engines, starting with the naturally-aspirated 1.0 MPI 75PS which is ideal for urban drives. If you need to venture further afield regularly then the extra power of the 1.0 TSI 95PS and 1.0 110PS engines (DSG transmission optional) will be worthwhile. The 1.0 110PS offers a 0-62mph time of 9.6 seconds and 64.2 combined mpg.
The Fabia Estate is instantly recognisable as a ŠKODA, and that’s a good thing. For 2018 the design refresh includes wide, precision-cut headlamps giving the front end a stronger, wider road stance. ŠKODA’s design hallmark of fuss-free, sharp styling lines suits the longer estate body of the Fabia. At the rear these bold lines converge to form C-shaped tail lights, creating more depth to the car's rear and giving it overall strength in appearance. Inside, the extra capacity of the Fabia Estate adds up to a boot capacity of 505 litres with the rear seats up or a cavernous 1395 litres with them down.
As standard the S trim level includes a DAB digital radio with USB and SD card capability plus Bluetooth.A move to the SE specification brings extra functionality and technology, including Smartlink+ for smartphone integration, a 6.5” touchscreen display, alarm, rear parking sensors and three-spoke multifunction leather steering wheel with radio and telephone control. SE L includes such features as cruise control, climate aircon, light assist and keyless start/stop.
Although the Fabia Estate hasn’t been crash tested by Euro NCAP, the Fabia hatchback received a five-star rating and there’s little reason to suppose the Estate isn’t as protective. Security experts Thatcham Research rated the Fabia Estate five stars for theft protection and four stars for interior security. All trim levels include ISOFIX child seat attachments, a reassuring number of airbags, and electronic braking assistance.
There’s a lot to like about the award-winning Fabia Estate and the latest design revisions simply add to its appeal. For the price, its combination of responsive three-cylinder engine, agile handling, good equipment levels and huge load space makes it well-nigh unbeatable.
