ŠKODA has revealed details of its stunning 2015 Fabia R5 concept car, which is due to compete at the 2015 European Rally Championship.
The manufacturer has a long and successful history in the sport, having raced since 1998, and the Fabia has been chosen as the latest model to get a rally upgrade. The R5 concept has been revealed prior to its debut at the Essen Motor Show in late November, and certainly looks the part.
Changes to the standard Fabia include a wider and more aerodynamically-shaped body, which includes flared wheel arches, a large rear spoiler, various air scoops and a centrally-mounted exhaust. To meet FIA regulations the vehicle will hold a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine producing a minimum of 265bhp, and overall weight must remain below 1,230kg. Power will be sent to the wheels via a five-speed sequential manual gearbox, with MacPherson suspension struts helping the vehicle grip all terrain confidently.
The manufacturer has also revealed that a number of its top drivers were involved with the development of the Fabia R5’s chassis, but as yet there are no plans to transfer these updates to the Fabia vRS hot hatch.
Motoring enthusiasts can watch the Fabia R5 competing across the world during the second half of 2015. To discover the road-ready Fabia, enquire with our Lancaster ŠKODA dealership in Milton Keynes and book a test drive today.
