The first images of the 2016 ŠKODA Roomster have emerged, with the heavily disguised prototype model spotted during road testing in June. It appears the MPV model has very distinctive van underpinnings, placing it in line with the passenger version of the Volkswagen Caddy van.
Sliding side doors are a clear feature on the prototype Roomster and the rear doors appear to offer excellent accessibility to the loadspace. Final details will be confirmed in the coming months, with a release date expected at some point in 2016. It is believed a 1.6-litre 100bhp diesel engine will power the MPV, with the possibility of a 2.0-litre diesel option as well.
A ŠKODA spokesman said: “It can come to market pretty soon. The Caddy goes on sale in the middle of the year, so we won’t be that far away.”
Production of the current Roomster model was ended in April 2015, with around 3,000 models sold in the UK since launch in 2006. The refreshed Roomster will be more practical than the old one, which means it will drive more like a van than a car.
