smart Electric Drive Models in Berlin

This month, visitors to the Festival of Lights in Berlin were treated to a light and music spectacular starring smart’s new generation of all-electric drive models.

Every October for the past ten years, the city of Berlin has been transformed by light installations. The city’s landmarks, roads and squares all become a stage for artists around the world to present their work using light.

At this year’s event, a light and music spectacular named the "smart electric symphony" was staged by the renowned electronic DJ Chris Bekker and featured the new all-electric versions of the smart fortwo, fortwo cabrio and forfour – accompanied by four huge Tesla coils.

For the "smart electric symphony", the internationally acclaimed Berlin DJ composed a special piece of music to feature Tesla coils and moving vehicles. The three smart electric drive models were used to represent an oversized mixing console – driving forwards and backwards in time to the music. Light flashes from the coils were added to the choreography in order to electrify the smart vehicles which resulted in a dazzling spectacle for visitors to enjoy.

The "smart electric symphony" was performed four times throughout the day outside Berlin's Union Film studios on 8 October. Visitors were able to enjoy a guided tour of the studio before and between performances.

On the event, Daniel Lescow, head of brand and product management at smart said: "As a pioneer of urban electric mobility, this is a great way for us to draw attention to agile and attractive driving pleasure. With our smart electric drive family we want to 'switch people on' to electric vehicles and inspire them."

This is one of the first public events to showcase the models since their world premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show at the beginning of October. As part of the fourth-generation of electric smart cars, an electric drive version of the smart forfour is available for the very first time. Additionally, the electric drive fortwo cabrio is the only all-electric cabrio currently on the market.

The electric drive models are a prime example of smart's vision of urban mobility and offering emission-free driving at an attractive price.

The first cars are expected to arrive in UK showrooms from September 2017.
