SMART forfour Scoops "City Car of the Year" at UK Car of the Year Awards 2016

The innovative new SMART forfour car has claimed City Car of the Year at the latest UK COTY awards, with special praise for the driveability and intelligent packaging of the supermini.

The UK COTY Awards , in association with Cox Automotive, have been running since 2013. Entrants were ranked by a panel of twenty-seven judges, comprised of motoring journalists from illustrious UK news and automotive publications, such as Top Gear Magazine, The Sunday Times, Motortorque, Honest John and Autotrader.

The unique character of the SMART forfour was highlighted in the judge’s final round-up. This model combines the compact styling of the SMART car we have all come know and love, with the practicality of room for four people, rather than just two, along with 5 doors and a chic design that make it as eye-catching as it is functional.

The SMART forfour was also celebrated for its “young at heart” style and, with running costs kept low by an urban fuel economy of 58.9mpg, this style is combined with the substance of affordability and eco-friendly credentials.

This win complements the great success seen by SMART in recent years as Krishan Bodhani, Head of smart UK, states:

“The smart brand is growing faster than ever – last year sales increased by 95% and we outperformed the brand’s previous nine years. Winning the ‘City Car’ title is proof that the smart forfour is as popular with the motoring media as it is with our customers.”

The SMART forfour was narrowly beaten by Mazda for overall Car of the Year, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it come back to take the crowning title in years to come, having hit many of the right notes and found a special place in the hearts of many of the judging panellists. As the jury concluded, the SMART forfour is a model that’s “easy to describe: urban, young-at-heart, intelligently packaged, eco-minded and well, smart.” We couldn’t agree more.
