The New York International Auto Show will play host to Toyota’s dramatic first 2017 GT86 reveal ahead of going on sale later this year.
The GT86’s characteristic front-mounted, naturally aspirated 2.0-litre ‘boxer’ engine will still feature, powering the rear wheels, but revised shock absorber tuning and spring rates mean that the revised model will deliver enhanced control and increased agility. These suspension changes highlight the 2017 GT86 as a pure driver’s car – and that’s exactly how it has to be, with this tenacious Toyota ready for race and rally.
Toyota’s specially developed GT86 CS-Cup racing programme will be held at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit and the GT86 CS-R3 will provide a platform for customers to compete in all levels of rallying, from grassroots all the way up to FIA-sanctioned events.
It’s not all muscle though, with the 2017 GT86 also boasting numerous visual changes, both inside and out. External styling elements include an enlarged central air intake, emphasising the coupe’s low, wide stance, a restyled bumper and lights, plus new alloy wheels with twisted spokes.
Embracing opulence, the GT86 exhibits an interior to behold, offering improved sensory quality that can be experienced through the multifunction sports steering wheel – featuring an 86 logo on the centre boss - and soft-touch, suede-effect material of Alcantara. With a combination of leather and Alcantara upholstery, as well as Alcantara-wrapped instrument panel options and door trims. A new cloth upholstery will also be available, featuring contrast silver stitching.
