The ID. ROOMZZ - Volkswagen’s electric SUV concept model first appeared in Shanghai this week.
The car is the latest of Volkswagen’s all-electric ID. range to be unveiled and is expected to be launched to the Chinese market in 2021.
Built on the modular electric platform (MEB), the ID. ROOMZZ is slightly larger than a Touareg with up to seven seats and features futuristic styling. It has an illuminated Volkswagen badge, hinge-sliding doors, and cameras in the place of door mirrors. Drivers can use their smartphone app to customise the full-width light band across the rear of the car.
The inside is equally futuristic; the seats are covered in a new material called ‘Apple-Skin™’. With the appearance artificial leather, it’s made from a sustainable material discarded during the aple juice production process.
When driving autonomously, the ROOMZZ’s digitised steering wheel will retract into the dashboard. The ID. ROOMZZ also has a 13.8-inch digital display and an augmented reality head-up display.
The ID. ROOMZZ is expected to accelerate from a 0-62 mph in 6.6 seconds using two electric motors with one powering each axel, producing a total of 306 PS.
The range of the ID. ROOMZZ is around 280 miles on the WLTP test cycle. And an 80% charge will take just 30 minutes.
