Volvo Cars and Autoliv are forging the future of autonomous driving
Volvo Cars have taken a step further toward a future as the leading car manufacturer for safety and automotive technology. Joining forces with Autoliv Inc., the worldwide leader in automotive safety systems, Volvo have signed a letter of intent to set up a jointly-owned company to develop next-generation autonomous driving software.
The new company, which has not yet been named, will develop advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving systems aimed for use in future Volvo models. Autoliv will also sell these systems to all car manufacturers across the world, allowing the development of the automotive world as a whole.
Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars, said about the partnership: ‘By combining our know-how and resources, we will create a world leader in AD software development. This means we can introduce this exciting technology to our customers faster.’
Volvo have long been leaders in automotive safety, and this new venture will allow them to take huge steps towards their vision that no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by the year 2020.
