WardsAuto, a respected motoring resource based in the US, has placed the fourth-generation Lexus RX luxury SUV on its ‘2016 10 Best Interiors’ list. Evaluating a wide range of categories such as aesthetics and design harmony, materials, safety, ergonomics, user friendliness, comfort, value, and fit-and-finish, eight WardsAuto editors rated 47 individual interiors over two months.
Editors praised the RX’s cabin, saying its ‘impeccable fit-and-finish, satin brushed-aluminium trim, form fitting seats, crisply lit gauges and display screen’ were particular highlights among the high levels of quality found throughout the interior.
Peter McGregor, Lexus Australia chief executive says, ‘the RX interior exudes progressive design matched with beautiful materials and superb quality to deliver a feeling of premium luxury for which Lexus is renowned.’ High levels of attention to detail have certainly gone into designing the fourth-generation RX, providing one of the best thought out and cutting-edge designs yet for Lexus, showing an interior that superbly reflects the power and precision of the exterior.
A particular highlight of the design is the laser cut ornamentation, the result of collaboration with Lexus’ long-term partner, Yamaha. Reminiscent of the exceptional finish on high-end pianos, the process involves precision laser cutting through a thin veneer of wood to expose aluminium beneath. The striking result creates a sharp contrast between the warm tones of the wood and the cool tones of the metal. A protective clear coat is applied and polished for a high shine to give a superior quality overall.
