75 years on, Porsche Design still reflect the tradition and heritage that forms a huge part of the brand from 1948, however now these design elements have been configured to represent the past, present, and future with new innovations and new technologies.
As we begin to celebrate the anniversary of the first automobile to bear the Porsche name the 356 No.1 Roadster an iconic vehicle and just the start of Ferry Porsche’s dream, we introduce Porsche Vision 357 with admiration of the 356 itself. The Design team began to study what Ferry Porsche’s dream car might look like today! And from there have manifested potential expressions of the future design philosophy and developed a vision featuring proportions that are reminiscent of its historical archetype and details that visualise the outlook for the future.
Built on the design elements of a 356 and the technology platform of the 718 Cayman GT4RS, representing outstanding sports car performance the Vision 357 is a modern interpretation of the 356.
From the narrow passenger cell to the abrupt sloping fly line and the broad shoulders all design elements evoke the 356, another nod to the past icon includes concealed door openers and tail lights, the grille pattern in the rear integrating a third braking light, and like all current Porsche models the Vision 357 embodies the unmistakable four-point light signet at the front. The round design of the headlights is also a throwback to the characteristic lights of the 356. When looking back it became apparent that in the 1950s the two-tone paint concept and grey tones were a popular choice which in turn led the design team to incorporate both Ice Grey Metallic and Grivola Grey Metallic.
To embrace not just Porsche heritage but current Porsche design and performance the “75” anniversary logo adorns the door and front of the design study like a start number, creating a connection to motorsport.
The Mission R, the concept study for an all-electric GT racing car presented in 2021. The basis for the sustainable materials is provided by flax fibres from agriculture. Instead of traditional exterior mirrors, the design study is equipped with cameras on the edge of the roof. The visible tailpipe trim in the rear is made of a blueish-looking titanium, while the inside of the tailpipe is made of ceramic.
Like the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, the Porsche Vision 357 has process air intakes positioned high behind the driver. The naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine theoretically draws 368 kW (500 PS) from four litres of displacement. The high-speed mid-engine would be designed for operation with e-fuels.
