Golf SV

Volkswagen Golf SV

Introduction

The Golf SV provides the sharp looks and capable performance that have made Volkswagen’s hatchback one of the world’s most popular passenger cars. At the same time, the SV edition boasts even greater load capacity and passenger space than the conventional Golf. Combined with a generous level of safety and driver-convenience technology and a superb engine range, this makes the SV an ideal purchase for families or company car drivers that regularly need some extra room for storage.

The new Volkswagen Golf SV can be discovered at the Lancaster Volkswagen dealers in Buckinghamshire, Essex and Hertfordshire.

Golf Range

Design

The Golf SV is compact and agile enough for town driving. Sharp lines and a wide grille, accompanied by the gentle downward curve of the roofline, give a subtle and refined visual impression. The wheelbase, larger than that of the conventional Golf, results in excellent comfort and legroom for five adults. Even with a full complement of passengers, there is 590 litres of loadspace in the rear – and when the rear seats are folded forward, this can be extended to a cavernous 1520 litres. The amount of room for luggage and provisions is made still more flexible by the ability to fold the front passenger seat forward, which increases the maximum load length to 2484mm – perfect if you have to transport long objects for work or leisure.

Safety

The Golf SV carries an array of active safety features as standard, including Electronic Stability Control, ABS, and a Driver Alert System capable of recognising fatigue. The protective pre-crash preventative system keeps occupants safe by automatically closing windows and the sunroof and tensioning front seatbelts if a collision appears to be imminent. The optional City Emergency Braking system, meanwhile, automatically depresses the vehicle's brake pedal to prevent rear-end shunts at low speed. If an accident does occur, the high tensile strength of the Golf SV's structure is supplemented by driver, passenger, front-side, driver's knee, and curtain airbags. A rear-side airbag system is also available as an optional extra.

Technology

Two petrol and two diesel engines are available with the Volkswagen Golf SV, with varying power outputs of between 85PS and 150PS. The 1.4 litre TSI petrol unit delivers excellent performance, with 0-60mph acceleration time of 8.8 seconds and a top speed of 132mph. For motorists more concerned with running costs, however, a better option would be the 1.6 litre TDI with BlueMotion Technology, which can achieve combined fuel economy of 78.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 95g/km – completely exempting drivers from Vehicle Excise Duty. All models feature a trip computer with a 3.5" TFT screen, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. The Discover Nav and Discover Pro touchscreen infotainment systems allow drivers to access a DAB digital radio and regularly updated maps.
