Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition

Design

The Vantage F1 Edition is offered in both Coupé and Roadster versions. Model-specific aero addenda include a larger front splitter, dive planes, underfloor aero, and large rear wing. Also included are 21-inch wheels, a dark-vaned grille, carbon fibre trim and a carbon fibre roof (Coupé only). It’s offered in the same shade of Aston Martin Racing Green as the F1 team cars, though Jet Black and Lunar White are alternative options. All three colours can be chosen in gloss or satin finish, and all feature matt grey racing graphics. Inside, the F1 Edition’s striking leather and Alcantara upholstery has contrast stripes and stitching in a choice of Lime Green, Obsidian Black, Wolf Grey or Spicy Red.

TECHNOLOGY

With an aero package developing 200kg of downforce at top speed, the Vantage F1 Edition feels balanced and planted even on the faster tracks. Aston Martin were determined that the new model’s track capabilities shouldn’t compromise on-road behaviour, so ruled out the fitment of aggressive, track-optimised tyres. But the F1 Edition does have a stiffer structure as well as reworked dampers to give better body control at extreme track loads. Spring rates and steering have also been tweaked for the model’s intended track use.

Safety

As with the standard Vantage, the F1 Edition’s drive systems include Dynamic Stability Control, with Dynamic Torque Vectoring linked to an Electronic Differential (e-Diff). Other Vantage safety features include Blind Spot Monitoring and Emergency Brake Assist.

Performance

Many of the Vantage F1 Edition’s performance modifications are chassis and aero based, but the Vantage’s 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 also has a maximum power output of 535PS, compared with the standard model’s 510PS. Peak torque is the same at 685Nm but covers a broader rev range, from 2000-5000rpm. 0-62mph takes 3.6 seconds and top speed is 195mph (handy when you have Lewis Hamilton champing at the bit behind you). The transmission is only available as an eight-speed auto but shift times have been cut to increase the precision and response of the drivetrain in track conditions.
