The i7 follows BMW’s most recent styling direction with a large glowing kidney grille and narrow rear lights with the addition of a chrome strip. Nodding to the electric powertrain, blue design elements typical of the BMW i range also feature. Despite its limo size, the i7 adopts an aerodynamic design for impressive efficiency and range, whilst its flowing contours make for an athletic appearance. Inside, a luxurious lounge-inspired interior adopts elements from the iX, including a two-spoke steering wheel and crystal iDrive controller. You can spec the i7 with a Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof and executive lounge seating, whilst extensive soundproofing ensures a relaxing and tranquil cabin.
TECHNOLOGY
First thing’s first: yes, BMW will happily install for you a 31.3” 8K screen in the rear, which lowers from the ceiling, to give your passengers a full cinema experience on the move. But it doesn’t stop there; 5.5” touchscreens are also integrated into the rear door handles allowing passengers to control said screen, the infotainment system, and more. Up front, a multifunctional ‘Interaction Bar’ extends across the entire cockpit alongside a curved 14.9” display. BMW IconicSounds Electric provides driving sounds (combined with ambient lighting) composed by none other than Hans Zimmer. And when it comes to charging, the i7 automatically adds charging stations to your pre-planned routes, including information such as plug type and availability, making long journeys a breeze.
SAFETY
As expected, the i7 will come with a range of updated, tech-enabled driver assistance systems and is equipped with Matrix LED headlights (with upper and lower light functions) to maximise visibility. BMW has also crash-tested the optional ‘Theatre Screen’ and says that, in the event of a collision, the g-forces will make the screen automatically fold away to minimise damage.
FEATURES
The i7 is currently available in the form of the xDrive60, which features a 101.7kWh battery pack. With an output of 544hp and 745Nm of torque, it makes the 0 – 62mph sprint in just 4.7 seconds and maxes out at 149mph. For those seeking increased power, the i7 M70 is expected to go on sale in 2023 with a huge output of 651bhp. The fully electric powertrain uses state of the art eDrive technology to offer up to 387 miles of emission-free range, whilst e-motors on each axle provide power to all four wheels. Using a 7.4kWh home wallbox charger, the i7 can gain 62 miles of range in just under two and a half hours, whilst a 50kWh fast charger will do the same in just 21 minutes. For savings on public charging, multiple packages are available for IONITY and BP Pulse networks, while the BMW Charging Card offers access to the nationwide BMW Charging network.
