4 Series Convertible 2022

DESIGN

We’ve all had time to get used to the new, larger BMW double kidney grille design and it undeniably gives the 4 Series an assertive presence. The 4 Series Convertible’s profile emphasises the rising shoulder line that gently sweeps from nose to boot lid and, whether the hood is up or down, its low, elegant proportions are easy on the eye. The hood itself is a ‘panel bow’ design with a glass rear window. It offers better acoustic and thermal insulation than a normal fabric top while giving the new 4 Series Convertible a lower centre of gravity than a folding hardtop. It can be raised and lowered in just 18 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph.

PERFORMANCE

With reinforced side skirts, extra bracing and an aluminium shear panel in the front end, the new 4 Series Convertible is 4% stiffer than the model it replaces. Together with a perfect 50:50 weight distribution this gives it the agility and precision to satisfy the high-performance driver. Flagship of the range is the six-cylinder M440i xDrive, with all-wheel drive, 48V mild hybrid starter-generator and 374hp, for a 0-62mph time of just 4.9 seconds. Other models include the 420i and 430i, both powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, and two diesels, the 420d and 430d. All models feature the 8-speed Steptronic transmission, with Steptronic Sport and Sprint function available as an option.
