5 Series Touring 2022

DESIGN

Inside and out, the new BMW 5 Series Touring has evolved to be everything you’d expect. The changes to the exterior design are subtle yet effective. It has a distinguished, sleek and elongated body with contoured lines and strong angles to stand out from the crowds. The stretched roof leads to an integral spoiler and you can open the rear windscreen while leaving the main boot closed. There is a new sporty one-piece kidney grille, wider and taller than before, redesigned front and rear lights with the options to add Adaptive LED lights or go for the BMW Laser lights upgrade, and redesigned bumpers with the new rear apron and sporty-looking trapezoidal tailpipes on either side. The M Sport 5 Series models now have new designs of 19- or 20-inch wheels to choose from too. The 5 Series Touring interior spaces redefine the perception of functionality. The boot space isn’t just big, it’s clever too. When you open and close the tailgate, the load blind moves automatically and when you have the rear seats folded it goes into a special storage recess under the floor. The front cabin mirrors the 5 Series Saloon with all the latest in-car technology and luxuriant design trims and finishes. The BMW 5 Series Touring has superb details and impresses from every angle.

PERFORMANCE

The 5 Series performance is effortless with all models having a smooth eight-speed automatic gearbox. The M Sport suspension handles corners with greater control and there is an optional clever adaptive suspension damping option taking data not just from your driving inputs or the road underneath, but from the navigation system’s reading of the road ahead. The biggest changes to the 5 Series are in the range of engines, almost every four- and six-cylinder engine now comes with a mild hybrid system where a 48-volt starter-generator and a second battery help to improve fuel economy and provide a little extra power boost. There is now a new plug-in hybrid Touring option called the 530e, fitted with a four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine that can travel for 40 miles on electric power alone. It features the new Anticipatory Hybrid mode, which uses Real Time Traffic Information to optimise fuel efficiencies and has a fourth generation high-voltage lithium-ion battery and BMW eDrive technology. There is also the BMW 540i xDrive Touring, which effortlessly produces 333bhp and 450Nm of torque with superb xDrive handling. Whichever version you go for the 5 Series Touring range is extremely well-balanced and smooth to drive with self-leveling air suspension; dynamic in every way and practical inside and out.
