DESIGN

BMW’s dominant kidney grille dominates the front view, flanked by two slim Adaptive LED headlights that extend far into the flanks. In profile the rising waistline and tapering roofline create a sporty impression without compromising interior space while at the rear, three-dimensional L-shaped rear lights make a distinctive design statement. To distinguish the iX1 from the rest of the X1 range, blue highlights frame the grille and lower bumper intakes, though these are a no-cost delete option if preferred.

TECHNOLOGY

The iX1 xDrive 30e offers all-wheel drive, not via conventional axles and propshafts but by two electric motors, one at the front and the other at the rear. Together they deliver 313hp (including overboost) and a torque output of 494Nm. That’s enough to power the iX1 xDrive 30e from 0-62mph in an impressive 5.7 seconds. Range is between 257-272 miles (WLTP) and it can charge at up to 130kW, boosting the battery from 10 percent to 80 per cent in under half an hour. BMW proudly claims that the cobalt and lithium used in the high-voltage battery are responsibly mined and that the motors do not use rare earths.

SAFETY

Like the rest of the X1 range, the iX1 comes as standard with the latest BMW front-collision warning system with brake intervention. This includes Collision Warning, pedestrian and cyclist warning with braking function, and Crossroads Warning. Other standard systems include Cruise Control with brake function, Speed Limit Info with no-overtaking indicator and pre-warning, manual Speed Limit Assist and the Evasion Assistant. Lane Departure Warning with lane return can now suppress course correction on narrow roads to allow the driver to move over for an oncoming vehicle.

FEATURES

Step into the welcoming cabin of the iX1 xDrive 30e and you’ll notice a minimum of switches and clutter. The BMW Curved Display creates a single curve of glass, integrating the 10.25-inch driver information display and 10.7-inch control display. Most infotainment and control functions can be input either via voice command or switches on the multifunctional steering wheel, and the optional BMW head-up display further reduces the need to take your eyes off the road. The latest BMW Operating System 8.0 includes refinements to the Intelligent Personal Assistant, so you can now used natural voice commands to adjust the aircon, open and close windows or operate the optional panoramic roof.
