BMW iX2

DESIGN

The first-generation X2 found favour with owners who wanted functionality with flair; the new X2, now available in all-electric iX2 form, takes a winning formula and turns the dial up. So the iX2 is bigger and bolder, with a front-on view dominated by a chunky, dramatic kidney grille with a sporty-looking honeycomb structure. It’s more spacious inside, being 194mm longer, 21mm wider and 64mm taller than its predecessor, and combines a sleek coupé roofline with a broad, muscular stance. Although it has grown, the new iX2 is more aerodynamic, with an impressive Cd of 0.25. M Sport specification is standard, with large side air intakes integrated into the front apron, a M-specific side skirts, M High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim and a rear apron with integrated diffuser.

With 313hp and 494Nm from its two electric motors, the iX2 xDrive 30 offers thrilling acceleration. The 0-62mph benchmark takes just 5.6 seconds, with the instant throttle response that’s a feature of electric power, and xDrive all-wheel drive delivers impressive levels of traction. The iX2 will cover up to 266 miles on a charge from its 64.8kW/h battery and can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent capacity in just 29 minutes at a 130kW rapid charging point.
