Design

The new M2 is 114mm longer than its predecessor, 16mm wider and 11mm lower, giving more legroom in the rear. At the front, a large, horizontal and frameless BMW kidney grille sits above by three large, squared-off air intakes in the front spoiler. The track-bred look continues along the flanks with flared side skirts and broad wheel arches, while the rear features a prominent diffuser insert and two pairs of tailpipes. A weight-saving carbon fibre roof, previously only available for M2 CS models, is now standard.
M2 Performance

Performance

The M2’s 3.0-litre 460hp straight six engine powers the rear wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, for a 0-62mph time of 4.1 seconds. Alternatively, a six-speed manual is available; it’s 0.2s slower to 62mph and costs extra, but one in ten M2 owners prefer the old-school vibe. Adaptive M Suspension and vented M Compound brakes are standard, as is an Active M Differential that can fully lock-up the rear wheels. The optional M Race Track Package includes M Carbon seats (saving 11kg) and a raised electronically limited top speed of 177mph.
M2 Technology

Technology

The new M2 comes with three-zone automatic climate control, rain sensor and automatic headlight activation, plus electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors. It also features the BMW Curved Display, with a 12.3-inch digital information display in front of the driver and a 14.9-inch central control display. The iDrive infotainment system is easy to use, and a set-up button on the centre console allows you to select your settings for the engine, chassis, steering, braking system and ten-stage traction control. Other features include ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System, and BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific readouts and graphics.

Safety

The M2’s occupants are protected by front and side airbags for driver and front passenger, with head airbags for front and rear seats. Active safety systems include cruise control with brake function, front collision warning with brake intervention, lane departure warning including lane return, an attentiveness assistant and speed limit display. The optional Driving Assistant adds lane change warning, rear crossing traffic warning and rear collision prevention.
