X3 M Competition 2022

DESIGN

The X3 M Competition sits at the very pinnacle of the X3 range and that’s the model that we’ll see in the showrooms – the standard X3 M won’t be offered in the UK. The latest design refresh includes a new one-piece gloss black M grille, complete with M division double vertical bars and M logo. Other changes include slimmer LED headlights and an all-new front apron with large vertical air intakes at each side that join at the bottom to a large hexagonal central air intake. At the rear, new LED taillights and a new gloss black rear diffuser with quad tailpipes underscore the message that this is one seriously quick SUV.

PERFORMANCE

Under the bonnet lurks a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six that develops a mighty 510hp, enough to propel the X3 M Competition from zero to 62 miles an hour in just 3.8 seconds. The suspension set-up is unique to the X3 and its sister X4 M Competition models, with adaptive damping, rear-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive, a choice of driving modes and an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission. An M Competition exhaust system delivers plenty of aural drama with a crisp, crackling engine note.

TECHNOLOGY

The recent upgrade is more than a simple design refresh; the X3 M Competition now features a new digital 12.3-inch driver display with selectable M-specific graphics, alongside a second 12.3-inch control display for infotainment and settings. The latest BMW Operating System 7 offers fast response and processing, while the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant responds to natural voice commands for a variety of functions, from climate and infotainment settings to navigation. BMW Live Cockpit Professional, Connected Music and Connected Drive are standard. Remote Software Upgrade ensures the operating system is updated without the need to visit the dealer workshop.

SAFETY

Like its coupé stablemate the X4, the X3 M Competition features a host of safety systems as standard. However as with all M Division vehicles, the driver can still control the point where traction and braking control intervenes. Standard systems include Active Guard, BMW Emergency Call and BMW Driving Assistant, while the optional BMW Driving Assistant Professional adds Active Cruise Control, intersection warning with city braking, emergency lane assistant and steering/lane guidance assistant.
