BMW X2 2022

DESIGN

Many of the design features of the well-received motor show concept car have made it into production, such as the larger grille, tapering coupé profile, slim glasshouse and swept-back headlights. The rear features LED lights and a sculpted bumper while there are M Sport and M Sport X versions for more sports styling cues – the M Sport is track-inspired with larger wheels and body-colour side skirts while the M Sport X has grey design details for an off-road look. As standard the X2 rolls on 17” alloy wheels but 20” alloy wheels are available to fill out those sculpted wheel arches.

PERFORMANCE

The X2 is available in two-wheel drive, petrol-engined sDrive20i, which sprints from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds and emits between 126 and 134g/km of CO2 (depending on wheel specification). Two all-wheel drive diesels are also available; the xDrive20d has 188bhp and returns 61.4mpg with 121-126g/km of CO2, while the xDrive25d produces 228bhp, returns 55.4mpg, and emits between 133 and 139g/km CO2. In time further drivetrains will join the range. All models feature a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch auto transmission. Drivers will be able to select from Comfort, Eco Pro and Sport driving modes, which adjust the gearbox, engine and steering settings.

TECHNOLOGY

The X2 will be available as SE, Sport, M Sport and M Sport X variants. SE features cruise control, sat-nav, 17in alloy wheels, front fog lights and dual-zone climate control as standard. Choose Sport for sports seats, black gloss exterior trim, LED headlights and larger alloy wheels. M Sport and M Sport X up the ante with larger wheels and either body colour or grey off-road body kits. All come with BMW's iDrive infotainment and navigation system on a 6.5in screen, with the option of an 8.8 touchscreen upgrade. An optional wi-fi hotspot is also available, as is Apple CarPlay connectivity. Another option is a head-up display, which projects speed and navigation instructions directly into the driver's field of vision.

SAFETY

The BMW X2 comes with all-round airbags and the BMW Emergency Call system which automatically alerts the emergency services in the event of an accident. Cruise control comes as standard with braking function to slow you automatically if the car in front does so. Driving Assistant and Driving Assistant Plus are both options – these include a whole range of features edging towards semi-autonomous driving, like City Collision Mitigation and Forward Collision Warning.
