New Special Edition BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition

The innovative i8 from BMW was designed to be a high-performance plug-in hybrid sports car, offering remarkable efficiency, agile performance and unbelievable speed.

This aerodynamically designed, lightweight formation, combined with class-leading credentials, has made the i8 a widely acclaimed creation, but the Bavarian brand isn’t stopping there. A new Special Edition BMW i8 is being released later this year. The Protonic Red Edition will go on sale in September 2016, being produced from July onwards at the brand’s Plant Leipzig.

Exclusively created Protonic Red paintwork with Frozen Grey metallic accents creates a striking presence that still displays distinctive i8 styling. BMW W-spoke 470 light-alloy wheels painted in Orbit Grey metallic further enhance the i8 Protonic Red Edition’s design, and Aluminium matt hubs with 215 R20 front and 245/40 rear tyres.

The cabin is equally as alluring, with red double-stitching and exclusive carbon-fibre and ceramic trims adding to its opulence and carrying the Protonic Red Edition styling into the interior.

The i8’s intelligent hybrid drivetrain can take you up to 23 miles in electric-only mode, boasting output of 362hp, 49g/km CO₂ emissions and economy of 134.5mpg – and that’s all from its 1.5-litre petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, BMW eDrive technology and intelligent energy management, which forms a pioneering powertrain and a significant milestone in the EfficientDynamics development strategy.
