#WeAreJMG: Diversity and Inclusion at Jardine Motors Group

Our people are the heart of our business and are at the forefront of everything that we do. It is through developing our people and providing opportunities for them to grow that we are able to learn, evolve and progress to meet the changing needs of our customers.

Our diversity and inclusion strategy #WeAreJMG, developed in conjunction with colleagues across our business, aims to ensure that we are creating these opportunities to welcome the best possible talent into our business. We recognise the power of bringing together individuals from different backgrounds, with different skills and experience, to help us achieve our goals and 'to be the best motor retailer as judged by you'.

The mission statement for #WeAreJMG is:

“We believe in offering a collaborative and innovative environment, removed of bias or stereotypes, where everyone can feel comfortable to bring their whole self to work and therefore enabling the best talent to shine.”

At the launch of #WeAreJMG were Chief Executive Neil Williamson and Group HR Director Clare Martin, who pledged their support to ensure that new opportunities are created right across the organisation to enable us to develop diverse teams at all levels.

Over 120 colleagues across all areas of the Group attended the launch event where they heard from inspirational speakers about the importance of diversity and inclusion. To help colleagues find their inner child, Group HR Director Clare Martin recently spent time with several young children, demonstrating how children are removed of bias, and are inclusive and accepting of all individuals.

To support us in creating a truly inclusive culture, we have developed five pillars as part of #WeAreJMG, helping us to focus our work on these priority areas. Find out more about each of these areas below: 

JMG Women: An internal network of colleagues who come together to make progress beyond the challenges of gender bias to help inspire and support each other. The network includes both female colleagues as well as allies and sponsors who support the cause.

As part of the work in this area, colleagues also help to tackle the issues of gender bias at grassroots level to avoid similar challenges for future generations.

JMG Ability: JMG embraces employees of all abilities. It unites people with visible and invisible disabilities, employees with loved ones who are disabled, and allies. 

We work to make sure our physical and technological environments are accessible and designed for all by developing and implementing practices that respond to customer and employee needs. 

We aim to cultivate a culture where all employees feel empowered by their abilities and talents, and work to advance our company’s dialogue on accessibility and accommodation strategies.​

JMG Forces: We are passionate about supporting our military. We work to ensure that our company policies are veteran-friendly, and help veterans and families transition back into civilian life. 

Our mission is to foster equality through recruitment, employment, training, and mentorship of veterans from all branches of service. We provide professional development and leadership opportunities within our company, and through the power of employee advocacy, our ex-service colleagues are proud to share their experiences and inspire others.​

JMG United: Through our partnership with Stonewall, we are supporting the fight to ensure LGBT+ colleagues can achieve acceptance without exception.

We believe we’re stronger united, so our partnership helps us create real, positive change so that LGBT+ communities can continue to find ways to flourish and individuals can reach their full potential.

JMG Equality: Our mission is to make it clearer that our commitment as an inclusive employer means being a placewhere employees can progress and use their experiences and talents, regardless of ethnicity.

To achieve this, we aim to continue to cultivate a culture where all employees feel empowered by their abilities, have access to clearly defined careers roadmaps, and learning and development opportunities so there are no barriers to career progression.

In addition, we pledge to advance our understanding any barriers new talent from ethnic minorities may face in joining our industry, as well as gain a deeper appreciation for any challenges our colleagues face so that we can work together to find solutions for future progress.
