McLaren’s racing heritage ensures the exhilarating performance and grace of each model, and the tyres selected for each car are integral to both power and efficiency. A combination of different types of tyre (for example, radial and cross-ply constructions) must not be fitted on the same axle at opposing sides. Using the correct type and size of tyre for your vehicle’s intended purpose is a legal requirement, so they must be carefully selected.

The minimum road-legal tyre tread is 1.6mm for all tyres, and this must be consistent around the full circumference of the tyre and three-quarters of the width. Through more challenging road and weather conditions in winter, a 3mm minimum is recommended for increased safety. This is also the level of tread at which both tyre makers and motoring bodies advise that tyres should be replaced. When you visit us, we can check each tread and advise you on acceptable limits.
