Paris Motor Show 2016: What to Expect

In one month, the doors will open to one of the biggest motoring events in the world – the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The prestigious car show is held every two years and gets over 1.25 million people visiting throughout the duration.

The reason for why so many people visit the Paris Motor Show is simple. It’s where the most influential car manufacturers flock to give European or worldwide debuts to some of the most exciting concept and production-ready cars about to hit the market. Whether it’s city cars or supercars, classic cars or futuristic concept cars, the 2016 Paris Motor Show will have it all.

Here’s what we know so far about this year’s show.

Exciting New Cars

Rumours have been flying around for months about the cars that will be making their debuts at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. And if the 2014 show has anything to go by, then we can expect some exciting releases at this year’s event.

In 2014 we saw debuts including the likes of the new Mazda MX-5, Mercedes AMG-GT and the Audi TT Roadster production cars. Also Volkswagen’s incredible XL Sport concept supercar was exclusively exhibited in Paris that year, which showed what can be achieved by mixing car and motorbike technology.

So what might visitors get treated to this year? Here’s just some of the new cars rumoured to appear at the 2016 Paris Motor Show

Audi Q5

The new Audi Q5 SUV is expected to be unveiled in Paris this year, and judging by the current Q5, the new model will be incredibly powerful, practical and will include a plethora of the latest in-car technology.

BMW are predicted to launch the latest addition to their luxurious X series range of SUVs at this year’s show. But it remains to be seen whether the X2 will be presented as a concept model or the full production car.

Honda Civic

Honda fans will finally get to see the finished product of the new 2017 Honda Civic after a prototype version was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. It appeared to be larger and sportier than the current model – we can’t wait to see it.

Land Rover Discovery

Land Rover are set to unveil the fifth generation of their incredibly popular Discovery model. The 2017 Land Rover Discovery will be one of the highlights of this year’s show as fans will be eager to see how the carmaker will launch the next generation of this luxurious, practical and technology-filled model.

Porsche Panamera

Porsche will officially reveal the new Panamera to the public at Paris, which comes shortly after it received a worldwide debut at a special event in Germany. With a new design language similar to the 911, and more power and efficiency than its predecessor, the new Porsche Panamera is sure to be a big hit at this year’s show.

ŠKODA Kodiaq

Another exciting feature is expected to take shape in the form the ŠKODA Kodiaq. We’ve already seen glimpses of ŠKODA’s first foray into the competitive large SUV class. And from what we know so far, we’re expecting it take on its rivals in some style with its class-leading boot space and striking new design language.

Special Exhibitions

Major car events such as the Paris Motor Show aren’t all about the new car releases. Those lucky enough to attend the show will be treated to the special "Moteur! L'automobile fait son cinéma" exhibition.

An impressive cinema-themed space will be dedicated to showcasing some of the most iconic cars throughout cinema history. The room will be divided up into different genres of film and exhibit famous vehicles from films such as James Bond, Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters and the Fast & Furious film series.

Event Information

The event will take place over two weeks at the Paris Expo at Porte de Versailles, the largest exhibition centre in France, from Saturday October 1 – Sunday October 16. It will be open to visitors from 10am – 8pm every day (10pm on Thursdays and Fridays).
