The fourth-generation of the popular and versatile Toyota Prius will make its first public appearance at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Due to go on sale early in 2016, the all-new Prius has fresh exterior shaping inspired by the Mirai and is likely to become the most efficient Toyota in the range.
So far, all that is known about the revitalised model is that its new front design will be more aerodynamic than before. The expressive face of the car will be accented with updated headlights and bumpers, and at the back a high-lipped spoiler and split screen will feature.
Richard Lacey, Toyota Product Manager, has already stated that the Prius Hybrid will be better than the Yaris equivalent in terms of efficiency. His comments suggested the possibility of the new model cutting CO2 emissions to less than 75g/km. With an ‘e-4WD’ system that works at up to 37mph, grip from the Prius will be boosted in challenging driving conditions. Economy of up to 90mpg from the 1.8-litre petrol engine and electric motor combination will also help to keep running costs to a minimum.
The new car will be the first Toyota model to use the global ‘Toyota New Global Architecture’ (TNGA) platform. This pioneering new vehicle platform is set to underpin all vehicles that the Japanese manufacturer produces in the future.
