Valenciennes is where the magic happens, where Toyota components come together to form the car that we know and love as the Yaris. It was here at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) that the three millionth Toyota Yaris was recently created, rolling off the production line to a very warm reception.
Toyota’s philosophy, ‘kaizen’, means continuous improvement – and as these three million Yaris cars have been produced over the course of 17 years, they’ve seen three generations and a whole host of advancements, including the addition of the 2016 Yaris Hybrid.
Since launching in 1999, the Yaris has grown to become Toyota’s best-selling model in Europe, retaining its original distinctive styling cues as it has evolved. The most impressive parts are the many significant changes below the skin.
The newest engines meet Euro 6 emissions standards, able to achieve 85.6mpg, emitting just 75g/km CO2 in the process. That’s a far cry from the original 50.4mpg and 134g/km CO2 of the 1.0-litre 4-cylinder 1999 Yaris, which were competitive figures at the time.
In summary, Toyota has created a bigger engine with more power that boasts improved efficiency, fuel economy, air quality and a lower drag coefficient. Better yet, 0 – 62mph takes just 11.8 seconds in the 2016 Yaris Hybrid, as opposed to the slower times of previous models – and top speed has been lifted from 96mph to 103mph.
From its 1999 launch to the most recent release in 2016, the Yaris has enjoyed 17 years of success and continually improved performance.
With the best Yaris ever made now available, it’s time to get in on the action and find out what ‘kaizen’ is all about. Take a look at our Yaris offers online or come in and see the team at Lancaster Toyota.
