Design

If you need reminding what MINI looks like, maybe you’ve been on Mars for the past few decades. All we need to say is that the MINI Convertible has a taut, well-insulated fabric roof that takes 18 seconds to raise or fold away at speeds of up to 20 miles an hour. As well as fully open and closed, it also has a midway ‘sunroof’ position. In the Sidewalk Edition, the roof is printed with a unique woven graphic arrow pattern. Exterior finish is Laguna Blue metallic, the bonnet stripes with their subtle blue pin lines are unique to the Sidewalk edition and the 17” Scissor Spoke alloy wheels provide the finishing touch to an eye-catching package. Inside the door bezels are in petrol blue, the fascia is in piano black and the seats are upholstered in MINI Yours Leather Lounge Anthracite with contrast stitching in Dark Petrol and Energetic Yellow. The side scuttles on the front wings carry the Sidewalk logotype and the door treadplates feature the Sidewalk pattern in brushed alloy.

Technology​

The amount of technology you get as standard with the Sidewalk Edition is truly impressive, including the Navigation Plus Pack featuring an 8.8” touch screen display, satellite navigation with Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI), wireless charging and Amazon Alexa functionality. It also has the Comfort Plus Pack that includes heated seats, and rear-view camera with Parking Assistant as well as Park Distance Control at both the front and rear of the vehicle. Those lucky 150 owners will also enjoy a Harmon Kardon audio system, head-up display and a choice of Comfort, ECO and Sport driving modes. Also standard is the Chili package, which comprises LED headlights and fog lights, an interior lighting package, automatic air conditioning and a height-adjustable passenger seat. ​

Safety​

The Convertible comes with six airbags and the usual array of driver assistance aids, including Dynamic Stability Control and ABS. The optional Driving Assistant uses a camera in the windscreen to assess critical situations and prepare the braking system. Another option, Emergency Call, will automatically send a distress signal in the event of a breakdown or accident. In the unlikely event of a roll-over accident, pop-up hoops activate in just 150 milliseconds to keep driver and occupants safe. ​

Verdict: the MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition is a premium car at a premium price, but when you look at all the standard equipment (and experience the power of that Cooper S engine) we think you’ll be smitten.
