DESIGN

All the signature MINI design cues live on in the third generation Countryman; upright stance, short bonnet, wheel at each corner. Unique Countryman JCW features include aerodynamic elements with vertical reflectors on the front of the car, JCW Signature Mode LED headlamps, an octagonal grille in high-gloss black and new three-colour JCW logo. The Chili Red roof and C-Pillar provide a striking contrast with the Legend Grey bodywork. Inside, a new textile dash in two tone black and red continues the sporty theme, as do the JCW Sports seats. On the practical side, the new Countryman features sliding and folding rear seats for extra versatility and up to 1,530 litres of loadspace with the seats down.

PERFORMANCE

JCW tuning magic takes the Countryman’s 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine up to an exhilarating 300hp and 400Nm of torque. Together with the ALL4 all-wheel drive system and seven-speed auto transmission, the new Countryman JCW can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.4 seconds, with a governed top speed of 155mph. High performance brakes with callipers in Chili Red, lowered suspension and wider 245mm tyres deliver roadholding and handling to match the engine’s stellar performance.

TECHNOLOGY

Highlight of the interior is the central, round, high-resolution 9.4-inch OLED display that is both touchscreen and driver information display, while the row of toggle switches beneath is a charming tribute to the minimalism of the original 1959 model. However, 65 years of technological advances means that you get plenty of additional features to play with, including a choice of MINI Experience Modes to select your preferred driving ambience via projected backgrounds and sounds. You can adjust navigation, telephone, and entertainment via voice command, at which point your chosen avatar will spring into action on the OLED display. Other standard features include an uprated sound system, two-zone climate control, sliding rear seats, heated front seats, a head-up display and adaptive cruise control.

SAFETY

The MINI Countryman comes with a complete checklist of driver assistance systems, aided by 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras. Level 2 partial automated driving is available with the Driving Assistant Professional option package; for example, it can detect gaps when changing lanes heading towards an exit and bring the vehicle to the optimum speed for an assisted lane change.
