DESIGN

The Targa 4 GTS is more intimidating in both looks and execution. Large side air intakes, distinctive spoiler lip and rear trim are all in black, as well as the roll-over bar with the ‘targa’ logo – an exclusive for the GTS. It also comes with updated SportDesign bumpers, 20/21” Turbo S wheels, and black twin tailpipes against a stainless-steel sports exhaust system. Paying homage to the 911’s motorsport genes, Race-Tex covers the GT sports steering wheel and the centres of the sports seats. Full bucket seats with carbon-fibre elements are also an option; both feature the embroidered GTS logo on the headrests. For an even sportier interior, the GTS package adds more Race-Tex and extended leather, as well as stitching in Carmine Red or Crayon.

PERFORMANCE

The GTS represents the peak in power and agility of the 911 Targa models. From the 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine comes an output of 470bhp and a blistering top speed of 191mph. As a result, it makes the 0 – 62mph sprint in as little as 3.5 seconds when combined with the Sport Chrono Package. The ‘4’ in its name nods to the Targa’s four-wheel drive, which together with the Porsche Active Suspension Management system (lowering the ride height by 10mm) provides both improved grip and greater comfort. Arriving with the Porsche Torque Vectoring as standard the Targa 4 GTS has increased dynamics and stability. But perhaps most impressive is the rich and captivating sound of the exhaust, which is made even clearer with the roof down – getting you even closer to the action.

TECHNOLOGY

Porsche has equipped the GTS with performance-enhancing tech such as the Sport Chrono package, which gives you a mode switch on the steering wheel to quickly choose between driving modes. A Sport Response button also unleashes a 20-second burst of maximum responsiveness. You can also download the Porsche Track Precision app to your smartphone, which allows you to measure performance and lap times. Infotainment related technology includes Porsche Communication Management (PCM), real-time sat nav and Apple CarPlay, whilst vehicle information is shown on two high-res displays making up the instrument cluster alongside the central analogue rev counter.

SAFETY

Porsche Stability Management acts as a safety blanket when pushing the limits of dynamic driving performance in the Targa 4 GTS. Other active safety features include larger brake discs: 408mm at the front and 380mm at the rear. Aluminium monobloc fixed red brake calipers are fitted – six-piston at the front and four-piston at the rear – resulting in more braking power than the base and S models. To improve visibility, the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus optimises lighting on bending and turning roads. Should a potential roll-over be detected, the car will deploy the roll-over bars within fractions of a second.
