Porsche has evolved the Cayenne through three generations now, and for a large 5-door SUV it’s sleek and well-resolved from all angles. The LED main headlamps feature the now familiar Porsche family quad daytime running spotlights, the bonnet line has echoes of the 911 DNA and the latest models show careful attention to sculpting down the bonnet and sides to reduce the visual impression of bulk. Three large air intakes in the front airdam make for an imposing sight in other road users’ rear-view mirrors, while the side profile suggests coupé through the curve of the rear windows without compromising headroom or space, both of which are more than generous.
PERFORMANCE
In Cayman S guise, Porsche’s 3.0-litre turbo develops 440PS, compared with 340 for the Cayenne. Torque is likewise boosted from the Cayenne’s 450Nm to 500Nm; while the standard model is no slouch, the Cayenne S simply feels more eager and potent at every point on the rev counter. The 0-62mph sprint takes 5.2 seconds, or 4.9 if you opt for the Sport Chrono package; top speed is 164 miles and hour and from a standstill to 100 miles an hour will take just 11.6 seconds. The power is ably harnessed by an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission: active all-wheel drive with an electronically variable, map-controlled multi-plate clutch. Other performance features include automatic brake differential (ABD), anti-slip regulation (ASR) and Porsche Traction Management (PTM).
TECHNOLOGY
The latest Cayenne models provide driver and front seat passenger with a clear infotainment display via a full HD 12.3-inch touchscreen display. Standard features include Porsche Communication Management (PCM). Your Porsche Connect subscription brings online navigation, real time traffic information, music streaming and online radio, Remote services and Connect Services. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the audio system is Porsche’s Sound Package Plus with 10 speakers and 150 Watts total output.
SAFETY
Standard driver assistance systems include Collision and Brake Assist including pedestrian protection; front and rear park assist; cruise control; distance warning and rear camera. Optional packages include Adaptive Cruise Control, Head-up Display, Night Vision Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Change Assist.
