Standard Items of Equipment
A refined, classy and efficient way to transport a full complement of family and luggage.
The Passat Estate range shares a lot of characteristics with its saloon stablemates. It’s refined, well-built, spacious and offers a wide choice of powertrains, from the ultra-frugal 74.3mpg BlueMotion to the 6.3 sec 0-62mph time of the 2.0 BITDI 240PS with 7-speed DSG transmission. The difference is that with the 60:40 rear seats folded down, there’s also a massive 1780 litres of space for any load you care to carry. If your journey takes you on the occasional unmetalled road you might like to consider the versatile Alltrack model, which features a raised ride height and 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
Volkswagen’s sleek, classic lines suit the extra length of the Passat Estate cabin, and the front-on view has a premium feel with a full-width grille as well as angular headlights with LED running lights. The interior is a masterclass in the use of quality materials and an intuitive, ergonomic layout. The result is an estate that will keep its looks and its appeal year after year and mile after mile.
There are two high efficiency 1.4 TSI petrol models in the Passat Estate range, developing 125PS and 150PS respectively. Both offer a cleverly-judged blend of performance and economy – the 150PS engine with six-speed manual accelerates from 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds, delivers 55.4mpg combined and produces just 119g/km CO2. The petrol engines on offer include the 1.8 TSI 180PS, while the range is topped by the 2.0 TSI 220PS that hits 0-62 in 6.9 seconds.
All Passat diesels are compliant with the stringent Euro 6 emissions standard; the range starts with a 118bhp 1.6 TDI that delivers up to 74.3mpg on the combined cycle in BlueMotion guise and includes 2.0 TDI models that develop 150PS and 190PS respectively. The fastest Passat Estate is the twin-turbo 237bhp 2.0 BiTDI, which features a 7-speed DSG transmission and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds.
The flagship Passat Estate GTE Advance offers a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid that combines excellent performance (0-62mph in 7.6s) with CO2 emissions of just 40g/km; exceptional figures that minimise personal Benefit in Kind tax for company car users.
The Passat scores the full five stars in the EuroNCAP ratings, with 89% for Adult Occupant safety, 87% for Child Occupant safety and 76% for Safety Assist technologies. SE models and above are fitted with Volkswagen’s Adaptive Cruise Control, which include a city emergency braking system. Other safety features include a PreCrash system, automatic post-collision braking and a driver alert system to prevent you from nodding off at the wheel.
