Mercedes-Benz G-Class

An SUV unapologetically committed to the roughest conditions and off-road driving, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class boasts the type of strength and versatility offered by few other passenger cars.

Agricultural businesses, as well as drivers from rural areas who regularly encounter challenging road surfaces and unpredictable situations, will be delighted with its robust nature.

The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class can be discovered in more detail and taken for a test drive at Jardine Motors Group dealerships in Essex and Suffolk today.

As well as the colossal strength of the G-Class's structure, the vehicle protects its occupants with driver, passenger and window airbags. ISOFIX child seat fixing points, meanwhile, keep children secure in the event of an accident.

A raft of active safety features, however, helps to ensure that such a situation will not come to pass.

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, an Electronic Stability Programme with Acceleration Skid Control, and a four-wheel Electronic Traction Control system assist drivers to avoid any loss of control.

At 1951mm high and 2055mm wide, the G-Class has a truly monolithic road presence, which is only emphasised by the stern, geometric bodywork. The fierce right angles of its heavyset frame, as well as its large, regularly-sized windows, give the G-Class a decidedly brutalist look; it is clear from the first look that this a vehicle which revels in its bluff, unpretentious character.

The utilitarian shape of the 4x4 also offers a number of practical advantages – its considerable height gives it class-leading wading depth (over 600mm) and ground clearance of 210mm.

As well as phenomenal approach and departure angles that enable it to climb and descend gradients of up to 80%. Inside, the leather-trimmed front seats provide excellent support during the bumpiest of rides. They are also heated and electrically-adjustable – like the exterior mirrors and steering column.

The exceptional build quality of the G-Class can be seen in the wood and carbon fibre detailing of the cabin, which can also provide a huge potential loadspace of 2,250 litres with the rear seats folded forward – enough to store a huge amount of equipment and provisions for work or leisure purposes.

The large size of the G-Class proves no obstacle to performance, thanks to the choice of immensely powerful engines available. The smaller, 3.0 litre unit supplies maximum power of 211hp, while maximum torque of 540Nm at just 1600-2400rpm lends the G-Class extraordinary thrust and pulling power at low speeds (the braked towing capacity, moreover, is a vast 3500kg).

The larger 5.5 litre powertrain, meanwhile, gives you a higher top speed and an extraordinary 0-62mph acceleration time of just 5.4 seconds (compared to the already swift 9.1 seconds possible with the less powerful engine).

An array of advanced multimedia systems come as standard, heightening the experience of driving the G-Class and keeping you in touch with the outside world regardless of your location.

The COMAND Online system provides you with a range of useful entertainment functions, such as a DVD drive and a 10-gigabyte music library.

The Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system delivers superbly clear audio to match any set of domestic speakers.
