The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has a rich historyandhas gone through several generations with various models over the years. The S-Class, short for "Sonderklasse" in German, which translates to "special class", has been a flagship luxury saloon for many years.

Released in 1972, the W116 was the first of the official ‘S-Class’ generation, although predecessors can be traced all the way back to the W180 in 1954. Often referred to as the ‘Ponton, this seminal model marked Mercedes Benz’s return to the luxury car market after World War 2.

Now in its seventh generation, each iteration of the S-Class has continued to pioneer advanced automotive technology and innovation. Released in 1972, the W116 S-Class was the first production car to feature an anti-lock braking system (ABS) which broke the mould in terms of safety.

A similar theme can be found in the following W126 which was one of the first cars to feature airbags for both driver and front passenger. In more recent years, innovations have become increasingly technologically smart with the 6th generation’s magic body control used to scan the road ahead and adjust the suspension accordingly, and the 7th generation’s infotainment has brought voice assistance, AI and its famous ‘Hello Mercedes’ start-up.
