Volvo’s brand-new XC90 has not yet even arrived at UK dealerships yet, and it is already gaining accolades from industry observers. Last week, the manufacturer’s rugged SUV was favoured with “Best 4x4” at the 2015 Car of the Year awards held by Diesel Car Magazine.
Judges said that they chose the XC90 for the superiority of its engine range, driving dynamics, imposing exterior and outstanding interior quality. Ian Robertson, editor and publisher of Diesel Car Magazine, praised its “totally fresh architecture” as well as the new 2.0 litre diesel engines. “Elevated quality levels, class-leading refinement and economy, and a driver-focused behind-the-wheel experience all combine to create a vehicle that is at the pinnacle of the 4x4 class”.
The newest version of Volvo’s SUV is available with a four-cylinder diesel unit offering 225hp, whilst achieving notably impressive fuel economy of 49.6mpg and a low carbon output of 149g/km. Although the capabilities of the diesel were of particular interest to the judges, the XC90 can also come with a powerful petrol engine supplying 320hp. A petrol-electric hybrid, meanwhile, delivers astonishingly low fuel consumption and just 49g/km of CO2 emissions – whilst not compromising on performance.
Nick Connor, Managing Director of Volvo Cars UK, declared himself gratified by the award. “It’s a car we’re really proud of, and which has generated a lot of interest – and over 1,000 customer orders – before it has officially arrived at UK dealers. It’s a great start to an exciting future for Volvo in the UK”.
The new XC90 will become available for purchase in June – and Lancaster Volvo in Reading will be among the first dealerships to offer the new model. Get in touch with our sales team for further information about the model.
