Replacement tyres explained

As the only point of contact with the road, tyres are the most important asset to your Volvo. When the time comes to replace your vehicle’s tyres, it’s crucial to select the most suitable tyres for your Volvo to ensure it performs to the highest standards no matter what the road conditions.

From November 2012, a simple and visible labelling system was introduced for all new tyres to indicate their performance in the areas of fuel efficiency, wet braking and exterior noise emission levels. The rating system is very similar to that found on household appliances, giving you a clear and quick indication of the tyre’s abilities.

The CO2 levels and fuel efficiency of your Volvo will be partly determined by your choice of tyres, so it’s important to make the right selection. By choosing the best tyres that best suit your vehicle, you can ensure you don’t use more fuel than you need – you could even reduce your costs by up to 7.5 percent. The new system uses an A-to-G rating scale to indicate efficiency on every new tyre.

Wet braking performance

Wet weather can impact on stopping distances and general tyre effectiveness. Not only should you make sure you’re keeping an eye on your driving speed and the distance between you and the car in front, but by fitting a new set of A-grade tyres, you can reduce the stopping distance of your car by up to 18 metres when travelling at up to 50mph.

Exterior noise emissions

The new labelling system also demonstrates noise levels in decibels for each tyre. Outside road noise can be distracting and unpleasant, but at Lancaster Reading, we’re able to help you choose the tyres that can give you an all-round quieter driving experience.
