Getting the show on the road
No matter the type of music or location, festivals always have one thing in abundance; mud. An Audi Q7 around to help set up is therefore a bit of a godsend, and it more than proved its worth at The Cornbury Festival.
Describing itself as ‘a lovingly crafted, top notch, very English open air party’, Cornbury is a boutique festival that prides itself on its focus on providing a luxury experience with a family atmosphere. The luxury element to the event comes out in everything from the headliners, including Jamie Cullum and Seal, to the stage set-ups and camping arrangements, but the family feel can only be tested by jumping into the Q7 and meeting with Festival Director Hugh Phillimore himself.
Meeting in a pub nearby in Chipping Norton, it is clear that Phillimore’s focus is more on the music than the money. “’Personal taste is a luxury I can’t afford.’ That was a saying a boss of mine used to have. But for me, a lot of this is personal,” he explains, and between making sure every guest has the best possible experience and celebrating the artists he loves, it is clear that Hugh truly dedicates as much of his own resource and energy as he can.
One part of this is personally making sure every sign stands upright and there is no rubbish around, and that’s where the capable Q7 comes in. The car’s quattro all-wheel technology is tested along the sharp and bumpy roads on the way to the site’s lock-up, and passes with flying colours. Once on site, it’s time to lay down the five back seats to create 1,955 litres of space for site posters and signage.
Many of the team met along the way have been working on the festival for 10 years, so the family feel is really tangible amongst the close-knit group. It seems to rub off on the guests too, Hugh commenting, “Guests say to me, ‘every single person on the way in was really lovely. Where did you find these people?’” Wherever he did find them, it seems to be working.
