Audi has injected an even more powerful engine into the 2017 S4 Saloon and Avant, fitting a new turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine under the bonnet packing a 349bhp punch. The S4 duo is lighter and faster, and is almost ready for you to get your hands on.
Utilising its 500Nm of torque (60Nm more than its predecessor), available at 1,370rpm, as well as its additional 21hp, accelerate from 0 – 62mph in just 4.7 seconds in the Saloon and 4.9 seconds in the Avant, all the way up to a 155mph top speed.
Performance is further enhanced by the marque’s quattro all-wheel drive system with self-locking centre differential, torque vectoring and sport rear differential. The S4’s eight-speed automatic gearbox features a freewheeling function, offering improved efficiency.
A normal driving style sees 40% of torque at the front and 60% head to the rear, but the system is able to transfer up to 86% to the front and up to 70% to the rear axle if slip is detected.
With a ride height 23mm lower than a standard A4, plus 18-inch alloys as standard, the S4’s looks reflect its heightened ability. Both S4 Saloon and Avant have shed 75kg, taking them to 1,630kg and 1,675kg respectively.
